About Asa Cha
Asa Cha was created from a journey, a love for matcha, and a desire to bring high-quality Japanese matcha to people in a way that feels approachable, smooth, and enjoyable every day.
Before Asa Cha began, I traveled through Korea and Japan searching for the best matcha experience I could find. My trip started in Jeju Island, Korea, and continued into Japan, where I landed in Osaka and took the train across the country to explore different regions, flavors, and tea traditions.
I spent about a month in Japan, visiting places like Kyoto, Fukuoka, Kagoshima, Saitama, and Aichi. Everywhere I went, I tried matcha in as many forms as possible — ceremonial matcha, matcha lattes, matcha desserts, matcha soba, matcha udon, matcha curry, and almost anything matcha I could find.
Each region had something special to offer, but overall, Japan stood out for its depth, tradition, and quality.
The Journey Behind Asa Cha
During my time in Japan, I was lucky enough to visit matcha farms, meet tea farmers, and speak with tea traders who understand the craft behind every harvest.
Seeing the process in person changed the way I looked at matcha. It was not just a drink anymore. It was the result of care, patience, soil, shade, harvesting, grinding, and generations of knowledge.
From the tea fields to the small shops serving fresh matcha, I saw how deeply matcha is connected to daily life in Japan. Some people enjoy it traditionally. Some enjoy it in lattes. Others experience it through desserts, noodles, or creative drinks.
That experience became the heart of Asa Cha.
Why Japan Inspired Us
Japan had the most memorable matcha I tasted during my travels.
The flavor was smoother, the color was more vibrant, and the experience felt more intentional. Some matcha had deep umami. Some were earthy and bold. Others were softer, nutty, and easier to drink.
Trying so many different styles helped me understand that good matcha does not have to be intimidating. It can be traditional, but it can also be simple, modern, and enjoyable at home.
That is what I wanted Asa Cha to represent.
Why We Chose Shunmidori First
For our first matcha, I chose Shunmidori because I wanted something that could be enjoyed by many people, whether they are new to matcha or already love it.
Shunmidori stood out because it is smooth, balanced, and easy to drink. It is not overly bitter, and it has a moderate umami with a soft nuttiness that makes it beautiful for both traditional preparation and lattes.
It gives people a good first experience with matcha without being too strong or difficult to prepare.
To me, Shunmidori felt like the right matcha to introduce Asa Cha — approachable, premium, and versatile.
